As an apartment complex here in West Chester, we have residents that have moved in from across town and others from across the country. For those who have moved from across town, life does not change much — they can still see their friends, they can still see their family, and the commute to work does not change much. For those that make the move across the state or across the country, however, everything changes. They are in a new place that is full of unfamiliar faces.

At the Lakes at West Chester Village, we understand just how difficult it can be to meet people in a new place. Because of that, we decided to dedicate today’s blog to our new residents that may be looking for ways to make new friends.

Continue reading as we discuss a few of the best ways to make friends in the West Chester area!

Shop Locally

You might be thinking “How does shopping affect your ability to meet new people?” — and you are right to think so — because it does seem a bit odd. That being said, meeting new people is all about getting out there and immersing yourself in your new city.

By shopping locally instead of spending your time sitting on the couch shopping online, you are able to 1) support local businesses (something we always recommend) and 2) potentially meet others who are also shopping.

Keep Track Of Local Events

Another great way to meet people that also involves immersing yourself in your new city is to attend local events. Lucky for you, the West Chester community hosts a large number of events all year long ranging from concerts to festivals and more!

By attending local events you have a higher chance of bumping into people and striking up a conversation. Additionally, local events can present you with the opportunity to discover new interests and experience new things.

Walk A Dog Around Town

So you might be noticing a trend — the best way to make new friends in a new area is to get outside and experience the area and talk to others. On top of that, it is important that you do so in such a way that conversation can be naturally sparked. And what better way is there to do so than to walk around with a dog all day.

So at this point, you might be discouraged, because after all, not everyone has a dog. Luckily, there are still ways for you to walk around with one. To gain your access to a four-legged conversation starter, consider visiting the local shelter and volunteering to walk a dog that is awaiting adoption. If that doesn’t work, you can always sign up to be a dog walker on popular dog care apps like Wag or Rover.

Regardless of how you get a dog, you are sure to have plenty of people stopping to pet it.

Become A Part Of A Local Organization Or Club

When you are in middle school and high school the best way to meet people is to join extracurricular activities. Whether it was a sports team or an academic club, it is likely how you met some of your best friends. As an adult, you can do the very same.

Whether you join a fitness group, volunteer group, or any organization that piques your interest, it is a surefire way to meet like-minded individuals. Who knows, you might even meet your new best friend! So be sure to explore all of your options and find something that interests you.

Do Something Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Sure, saying “do something outside of your comfort zone” might be one of the most cliche pieces of advice that we could possibly give to you, but the simple fact of the matter is that it is a fantastic way to get out there and meet people.

One of our favorite things that you can do to meet others is to try something new — even if you think that you would be bad at it? Are you a sub-par cook? Then take a cooking class. Do you consider yourself to be unartistic? Then consider signing up for a painting class. After all, you might find that you are good at it and make some friends in the process.

Use Community Amenities At Our West Chester Apartments

While there are countless ways that you can meet people by immersing yourself in the city, you can meet people at home too. When you live at the Lakes at West Chester Village, you can meet people just a few steps from home at our community pool, fitness center, dog park, or walking paths. All you have to do is get out there!
